Tiger Woods Confirms Return to PGA Tour at Genesis Invitational

Tiger Woods, the legendary golfer, is set to mark his return to the PGA Tour with an appearance at the upcoming Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. Woods himself confirmed this exciting news on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time) via social media.

In his announcement, Woods expressed his enthusiasm for being the host of the event, signaling his readiness to compete once again on the professional circuit. This marks his first PGA Tour appearance of the year, following his last official tournament at the 2023 Masters in April. Although he participated in two events in December, including the PNC Championship with his son Charlie and the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, this will be his first official tour event since April.

The 15-times major champion has faced challenges in recent years, particularly after suffering severe leg injuries in a car crash in 2021. Since then, Woods has undergone ankle surgery and has been on a journey to recovery. Despite these setbacks, his return to competitive golf has been eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide.

The Genesis Invitational, scheduled from February 15-18, holds special significance as Woods serves as the host of the prestigious event. With his presence, the tournament is expected to draw heightened attention from golf enthusiasts and spectators alike.

Moreover, Woods recently announced the end of his long-standing partnership with sportswear giant Nike, sparking curiosity about the equipment and clothing he will feature at Riviera. This transition adds an additional layer of intrigue to his comeback.

Following his appearance at the PNC Championship in December, Woods expressed confidence in his physical condition, affirming his intention to participate in monthly competitive action throughout the year.

Representing the women are Aira Villegas, 28 (50kg), Claudine Veloso, 24 (54kg), Nesthy Petecio, 31 (57kg), Riza Pasuit, 31 (60kg), and Hergie Bacyadan, 29 (75kg). According to Manalo, this ten-member team completed a training session in Australia from January 14-27. They are scheduled to compete in the Boxam Tournament in Alicante, Spain, from January 29 to February 4.
