The PLDT High Speed Hitters will begin their campaign in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference without the services of veteran middle blocker Mika Reyes. Reyes, a key player for PLDT, will be sidelined as she continues her recovery from a recurring shoulder injury.
PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort disclosed that Reyes recently underwent surgery on her right shoulder to address the persistent injury, which has been a concern since last year. This marks the second operation Reyes has undergone within months, with the initial surgery taking place in May and a subsequent procedure earlier this year.
With Reyes out of action, PLDT will rely on the capabilities of their roster, including newcomer Majoy Baron, who joins from disbanded F2 Logistics, along with Jessey De Leon, Rachel Austero, and Dell Palomata, to fill the gap left by Reyes. Despite the setback, the team remains optimistic about their prospects for the upcoming season.
In the 2023 Second All-Filipino Conference, PLDT missed out on a semifinals berth with a 7-4 record. However, with a determined roster and aspirations for a title, the High Speed Hitters are eager to make their mark in the upcoming competition set to commence on February 20.
