Pangasinan Heat Joins MPBL, Eyes Homegrown Talents and Pro Players

In an exciting development for basketball fans in Pangasinan, the Pangasinan Heat officially became the newest addition to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) following a contract signing ceremony held on Wednesday at the provincial capitol in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Franchise owner Cezar Quiambao and MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes sealed the deal by signing the Memorandum of Agreement, solidifying Pangasinan’s entry into the prestigious basketball league. This significant milestone comes after Abra was admitted to the league just a day earlier, showcasing the MPBL’s expansion efforts and growing influence in Philippine basketball.

The contract signing ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III, Representative Art Celeste, Alaminos Mayor Bryan Celeste, and MPBL legal counsel Glen Gacal. Also in attendance were basketball legends from Pangasinan, such as Danny Ildefonso, Marlou Aquino, and Cris Calaguio, along with the coaching staff led by Jun Marzan.

The decision to name the team “Pangasinan Heat” reflects the province’s aspiration to become the Solar Capital of the Philippines. While Pangasinan aims to nurture homegrown talents, Quiambao revealed plans to recruit five to seven professional players, particularly big men, to strengthen the team’s roster. The Heat will call the Calasiao Sports Complex their homecourt as they embark on their inaugural season in the MPBL.
