Joined by Bryant’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, the Lakers revealed the statue on 2/8/24, a symbolic date that incorporates the jersey numbers Bryant wore throughout his illustrious career with the Lakers — No. 8 and No. 24 — as well as the No. 2 worn by his daughter Gianna on her youth basketball team.

The design and pose of the statue remained a mystery until the unveiling, showcasing Bryant in a triumphant stance with his right hand raised in the air, reminiscent of his historic 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.

During the ceremony, Vanessa Bryant shared that the statue unveiled is just one of three planned to be placed outside the arena. The statue revealed depicts Bryant wearing his iconic No. 8 jersey. The two remaining statues will feature Bryant in his No. 24 jersey and a poignant tribute alongside his daughter Gianna, who tragically lost her life alongside Bryant and seven others in a helicopter crash in 2020. However, these statues were not unveiled during the ceremony, and the Lakers clarified that the dates for the unveiling of the remaining statues are yet to be determined
