Justin Brownlee Cleared to Boost Gilas Pilipinas in FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers

In a significant development for Philippine basketball, Justin Brownlee has received clearance to don the Gilas Pilipinas jersey during the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. The announcement comes after the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) revealed that FIBA issued a “Notice of Charge” related to a proposed three-month period of eligibility, stemming from a doping rule violation during the Asian Games.

SBP president Al Panlilio expressed elation over the positive outcome, emphasizing that FIBA’s decision allows Brownlee to contribute to Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming crucial window of the qualifiers.

“We’re elated that the consequences FIBA issued does not prevent Justin Brownlee to play for Gilas in the upcoming window,” said Panlilio. He added, “Having him as our naturalized player alongside some of our locals that he has already played with before will be beneficial to the squad.”

The upcoming window is a crucial phase for Gilas Pilipinas as they seek to secure a spot in the FIBA Asia Cup. With Brownlee’s eligibility now confirmed, the team gains a boost, both in terms of on-court performance and team chemistry.
