Converge FiberXers have decided to terminate the contract of Cebuano guard Mac Tallo just a few months after his acquisition, citing multiple infractions of his Uniform Players’ Contract, the franchise announced on Wednesday, February 7.
The decision came after Tallo participated in a series of unsanctioned games without seeking clearance from Converge management and the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), violating the terms of his contract.
Tallo’s most recent outing was steering the Z’Nars Jewelers-Marawi City to victory in the Sinulog Cup championship in Cebu City on January 27, where he also claimed Finals MVP honors.
Converge, after conducting a thorough investigation, confirmed Tallo’s infractions, leading to the termination of his contract. This move marks the end of Tallo’s short stint with the FiberXers since signing with the team in October.
Despite his successful run in Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3, where he emerged as the top 3×3 player in the country, Tallo’s tenure with Converge in the Commissioner’s Cup was brief. In five games played, he averaged 7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2 assists, as Converge finished last with a 1-10 record.
Tallo incurred a P100,000 fine from the PBA for his participation in unsanctioned games, a practice commonly known as “ligang labas.” However, league commissioner Willie Marcial clarified that Tallo would only need to pay the fine once he gets acquired by another team.
