The Choco Mucho Flying Titans kicked off their 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season with a resounding victory, mirroring the successes of other powerhouse teams in the league. In a commanding performance, the Flying Titans swept past the Nxled Chameleons in straight sets to secure their first win of the PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Facing off at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, the Flying Titans displayed their prowess on the court, clinching the victory with scores of 25-12, 25-22, and 25-18. Reigning PVL MVP Sisi Rondina emerged as a standout player, contributing 17 points with an impressive display of 16 attacks and an ace. Joining her in the spotlight was Kat Tolentino, who bolstered the team’s performance with a notable 12-point showing.
Reflecting on the match, coach Dante Alinsunurin expressed gratitude for the team’s performance and highlighted their ability to dictate the tempo from the outset. Despite facing occasional challenges from Nxled, the Flying Titans maintained their composure and determination to secure victory.
In particular, Set 2 saw Nxled mounting a comeback, narrowing the scoreline to 20-21. However, critical errors from the opposition, including a service error from Chiara May Permentilla and a failed scoring attempt from Ivy Lacsina, provided the Flying Titans with an opportunity to regain control. Tolentino capitalized on the moment, finding a gap in the defense and delivering crucial points to propel the team forward.
Notably, decorated setter Deanna Wong was sidelined for the match against Nxled. Nonetheless, Mars Alba rose to the occasion, seamlessly stepping into Wong’s position and orchestrating the team’s offense with precision. Alba’s exceptional performance, highlighted by 18 excellent sets, underscored the depth and versatility of the Flying Titans’ roster.
