On a Thursday morning, the atmosphere was electric at the Philippine International Convention Center, but for Angge Alcantara, the nerves were palpable. It wasn’t the anticipation of a big game for Adamson University in the UAAP that had her on edge; instead, it was the daunting task of delivering the valedictory speech at her graduation ceremony.
At 23 years old, Alcantara stood poised to deliver the biggest speech of her life in front of her fellow graduates. As she took the stage, she reflected on her journey, culminating in this moment of triumph. Graduating with Latin honors, Alcantara earned the distinction of Magna Cum Laude, a testament to her dedication and hard work throughout her academic career.
For Alcantara, this achievement held special significance beyond academic recognition. It was a moment to share with her mother, who had traveled from Bataan to Manila to witness her daughter’s milestone. The joy on her mother’s face, along with the pride of her family, made the moment all the more unforgettable.
“Sobrang saya po even though wala yung tatay ko sa mismong graduation but nandito naman po sila nanay and sobrang happy po ako kasi ang priceless po ng reactions nila,” she shared, overwhelmed by the overwhelming emotions of the day.
Alcantara’s journey to academic excellence had been marked by challenges and perseverance. Despite her prowess as the lead playmaker of the Lady Falcons on the basketball court, she admitted to being somewhat of an introvert, making her adjustment to life in Manila all the more difficult.
Navigating the demands of student-athlete life while excelling academically required discipline, determination, and a steadfast commitment to her goals. Yet, through hard work and dedication, Alcantara emerged triumphant, not only as a standout athlete but also as a scholar and academic achiever.
