Alex Eala Advances to W50 Trnava Quarterfinals in Slovakia

Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala continues to make waves in the international tennis scene as she secures a spot in the quarterfinals of the W50 Trnava tournament in Slovakia. Eala showcased her skill and determination as she swept past North Macedonia’s Lina Gjorcheska with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-2.

The match began with both players locked in a 4-4 tie in the first set, exchanging games in a closely contested battle. However, Eala seized control in the pivotal ninth game, holding Gjorcheska to just 15 points and eventually clinching the first set.

In the second set, the 18-year-old Eala capitalized on her momentum, turning a 2-all tie into a commanding 4-2 lead. Despite a fierce fight from her opponent in the latter stages of the set, Eala remained composed and secured the victory, booking her spot in the quarterfinals.

Eala is set to face Russia’s Anastasiia Gureva in the quarterfinal matchup, scheduled for Friday night (Manila time).

In addition to her singles success, Eala also excelled in the doubles event, advancing to the semifinals alongside her partner, Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey. The dynamic duo defeated the pair of Romania’s Ilona-Georgiana Ghioroaie and Czechia’s Aneta Kladivova in a thrilling match that ended with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 10-5.

Eala and Sonmez will continue their quest for the doubles title as they face Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima and Switzerland’s Lulu Sun in the semifinals, also scheduled for Friday. With her remarkable performances in both singles and doubles, Eala continues to showcase her talent and potential on the global tennis stage, earning recognition as one of the brightest young stars in the sport.
