Adamson University Ends 31-Year Drought, Clinches UAAP Season 86 Boys Basketball Title

In a thrilling showdown at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, Adamson University made history by clinching the UAAP Season 86 boys basketball championship title after a remarkable 90-73 victory over National University Nazareth School (NU-NS).

The victory marked the end of a 31-year title drought for the Baby Falcons, who last claimed the championship in 1993. Under the guidance of head coach Mike Fermin, Adamson University showcased their prowess throughout the season, culminating in a triumphant performance in Game 3 of the finals.

The pivotal Game 3 saw the Baby Falcons take control early on, leading 62-53 by the end of the third period. Their dominance continued to grow, with an Earl Medina triple extending their lead to 24 points at 77-53 with just under six minutes remaining in the final frame. This commanding advantage proved insurmountable for NU-NS, allowing Adamson to secure the victory and the coveted championship title.

Several standout performances propelled Adamson to victory, with JC Bonzalida delivering an impressive double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, accompanied by three assists, a steal, and a block. Tebol Garcia contributed 15 points, while Mark Esperanza, who earned Finals MVP honors, made significant contributions with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Despite a valiant effort from NU-NS, led by Season MVP Collins Akowe with 18 points and 13 rebounds, as well as Mac-Mac Alfanta with 16 points, Adamson’s relentless determination and collective effort ultimately secured their triumph on the court.
